At just 20 minutes away from Casa do Lago:
The Buddha Garden (Garden of Peace) with 6000 different statues of all sizes!
The Buddha Eden Garden is a space of about 35 hectares, designed in response to the destruction of the Bamyan Giant Buddhas, which is one of the greatest acts of cultural barbarism, erasing from the world's memory masterpieces of the late period of Gandhara's Art.
In 2001, deeply shocked by the attitude of the Taliban Government, intentionally destroying unique monuments of World Heritage, Mr. Jose Berardo decided to build an extensive oriental garden. In a certain way, it pays tribute to the colossal Buddhas carved in the rock of the Bamyan valley in central Afghanistan, which have been cultural and spiritual references, for centuries.
It is intended from the Buddha Eden Garden to be a place of reconciliation.
Without any religious tendency, it opens doors to all people regardless of religion, ethnicity, nationality, sex, age, cultural or social condition, inviting communication and meditation as a way to rediscover happiness. The aim, therefore, is to go in the opposite way to the destruction of the human being and to spread the culture of peace.
